THE RESILIENCE OF INDIGENOUS WOMEN
The Bearclaw Gallery is pleased to present The Resilience of Indigenous Women, an exhibition of new works by Maxine Noel (Ioyan Mani), and introducing Nathalie Bertin. The exhibition opens Saturday April 16 with both artists in attendance from 1-4 PM.
Maxine Noel is a Santee Oglala Sioux artist originally from southern Manitoba. Maxine’s strong commitment to her culture has led to work with the Native Earth Performing Arts, the Canadian Native Arts Foundation and the association for Native Development in the Performing Arts. Maxine has recently worked with the Native Women’s Association of Canada in developing an image used in posters, prints and cards to bring about awareness to the Missing and Murdered Aboriginal Women.
New to the Bearclaw Gallery, Metis artist Nathalie Bertin hails from Ontario. In researching the heredity of her DNA mothers, Nathalie has reflected on who these women might have been and the strength they must have had. Their total and absolute resilience.
Nathalie’s artwork has been reproduced on collector coins by the Royal Canadian Mint, she has exhibited throughout Canada, and has work in the Imago Mundi collection in Italy. Her artwork has also been published in several books and magazines.
