Mother Nature in Celebration
New Works by Laird Goulet
Opening Saturday May 13, with artist in attendance from 2 – 4 PM
“Mother Nature provides for us with her many gifts, as a Giver of Life”
Laird Goulet’s unique and vibrant painting style reflects the spiritual and artistic imprints that have been inherently transferred to him by his Kokums (Grandmothers). Laird uses the power dot to best capture the floral beadwork patterns and rich birch bark biting imprints that his Kokums had mastered before him.
Laird is conscious of the importance of balance and the four directions. His paintings pay homage to the subsistence lifestyle of his Cree Moshums (Grandfathers). Hunting, trapping, and fishing are common images used. Laird also enjoys painting daily chores, such as collecting firewood, sawing logs and berry picking. Laird has a great affinity for animals, the plant world and all living things. He has an almost uncanny ability to visualize life from their viewpoint. His use of vibrant colour is influenced by his love of nature.
Exhibition continues through to May 24, 2023
