The Gallery is pleased to present New Works by Metis/Cree Artist Laird Goulet. The exhibition will open on Saturday, April 18th, with artist in attendance between 2-4 PM.
Laird is a Metis/Cree artist, born in 1968. His mother is Metis from Cumberland House,Saskatchewan, the first Metis settlement in Canada, his father is from Opawkwayak Nation in Manitoba.
Laird Goulet’s unique and vibrant painting style reflects the spiritual and artistic imprints that have been inherently transferred to him by his Kokums (Grandmothers). Laird uses the power dot to best capture the floral beadwork patterns and rich birch bark biting imprints that his Kokums had mastered before him. Laird is conscious of the importance of balance and the four directions. His paintings pay homage to the subsistence lifestyle of his Cree Moshums (Grandfathers). Hunting, trapping, and fishing are common images used. Laird also enjoys painting daily chores, such as collecting firewood, sawing logs and berry picking. Laird has a great affinity for animals, the plant world and all living things.
