Joe Tapaquon was raised in Regina, Saskatchewan and is a member the George Gordon First Nation. Joe was inspired by his father, artist Joseph Bitternose, Sr.

From an early age he would watch his father draw horses and eagles at the kitchen table and he knew that he would one day also be an artist.

The greatest influences on his work are Isaac Bignell and Gary Meeches.
