Alex Janvier
It is with great sadness that we would like to acknowledge the passing of Alex Janvier.
Alex’s contribution to Canadian art is immeasurable. His unwavering support for the rights of Indigenous artists and people has had a marked effect on Canadian culture. Over the last several decades, Alex has worked faithfully as a full time artist. His accolades include; The National Aboriginal Lifetime Achievement Award, The Order of Canada, The Governor General’s Award in Visual and Media Arts, The Alberta Order of Excellence and much more.
Alex has never shied away from telling his story. He has always had a strong commitment to the Denesuline, to the land he was born on and a respect for nature. These elements come through in his work. His life and legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
