The Bearclaw Gallery is pleased to present “Tree of Life” A collection of Acrylic and Serigraph Works by Norval Morrisseau from April 1-13th.
“My art speaks and will continue to speak, transcending barriers of nationality, of language and of the forces that may be dismissive, fortifying the greatness of the spirit that has always been the foundation of the Ojibwa people” – Norval Morrisseau
Norval Morrisseau, hailed the “Grandfather of Native Art”, is undeniably the most recognized and influential First Nations artist Canada has ever seen. Acknowledged as the founder of the Woodland School of Art, his genius as a painter defies common classification. Steeped in tribal traditions since early childhood, he was the first to break a sacred taboo of his people by painting images based on the colourful myths and legends handed down to him by his grandfather, a shaman, and other members of the Great Ojibwa.
