Jason Carter
Jason Carter is a Indigenous sculptor, painter, illustrator and public artist from Little Red River Cree Nation on Treaty 8 in Northern Alberta. He has major permanent installations in both the Calgary & Edmonton International Airports; both sculpture and canvas in many public places (Microsoft, Travel Alberta, Wood Buffalo Region, Stantec, Banff Caribou Properties The Moose Hotel, Canada Goose) and private collections globally. Jason has illustrated 5 children’s books and created & installed The World Of Boo for the Art Gallery of Alberta in 2015. In February 2019, he was featured on Property Brothers on HGTV. He hand painted 150 Hockey Sticks for HOCKEY CANADA for the World Juniors in 2021 and now, many schools in and around Alberta and Canada currently study Jason Carter and he could not be more humbled by this. Most recently, he was commissioned by the Museum of Aboriginal Peoples’ Art and Artifacts of Canada to create a 2 x 79” x 29” & 58” x 29” painting permanently installed in the museums entrance. Jason has created several outdoor light sculpture installations: ‘In Search of Christmas Spirit’ with Banff Lake Louise Tourism and Parks Canada; wâpos at Amiskwaskahegan Park in Edmonton, celebrating the coming of Spring with 12’ Rabbit sculptures and Winter Solstice, celebrating what solstice means in traditional Indigenous teachings, featuring a 14’ tall Grandfather Sun holding a beautifully lit round orb. In January 2024, Jason created a permanent walking bear sculpture for the Alberta Winter Games and City Of Grand Prairie, where it will be permanently on display.
